An associate of the International Institute of Marine Surveyors, and an RYA Yachtmaster who specializes in fiberglass, steel and wooden sailing yachts, catamarans, motor boats and canal boats that are up to 24 meters long and used for leisure sailing.
John set up Small Boat Surveys on January the first 2005. He works in the UK from mid September until mid June then works in the UK and the Ionian Sea area of Greece during the summer months.
I carry out around 60 to 80 Surveys per year and have Surveyed boats made from GRP, Wood, Steel and Ferro Cement. I understand that you have to move quickly once you have found a boat you like up for sale and will ‘get to it’ as soon as I can. I’m happy to have ‘you the buyer’ with me during the survey and have made some good friends over the years this way.
Delivering boats by sea has grown from these friendships and I do around 6 deliveries a year. These are mostly larger yachts and Catamarans that are expensive to delivery by road or when I'm helping a new owner get to grips with his boat.
As well as Pre Purchase and Insurance Surveys I carry out damage surveys for Insurance companies. Recently there has been a lot of interest in Stray Current Corrosion Surveys and I have just invested in new equipment to make this job easier.
